To safeguard one’s eyes and the effort it takes to control one’s desires (Nafs) is an ongoing good deed which the Prophet (s.a.w) has encouraged in many different ways. For example, He (s.a.w) said, “There are three kinds of men whose eyes will not see the hell-fire. One, the eye which is busy watching the enemy during Jihad in the path of Allah; second, the eye which cries with the fear of Allah; third, the eye which is held from looking at what Allah has forbidden.” (Majma ‘uz-Zawaid)
